Ribbon Cut
Metro's Crystal Edwards and Tom George, Senator Tim Kennedy, and NFTA Chair Sister Denise Roche

On Tuesday, October 22, the NFTA hosted an official ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of Metro's new customer service center.  The event included NYS Senator Tim Kennedy, other civic leaders, and community members.   The new 4,000 square-foot center combines traditional customer care with new interactive and digital information technologies to better serve riders.

The center features an inviting passenger circulation area; digital screens that provide real-time bus and rail route/schedule information; four customer service windows; and a wheelchair accessible counter.  The center will also include a self-serve ticket vending machine with assistive technology for riders with disabilities, which will also be open to the public after hours.

An estimated 15,000 passengers board at stops in the vicinity of the downtown bus terminal on a weekly basis.

The customer service center’s hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. During regular hours, customers may purchase Metro monthly passes and process paratransit registrations and reduced fare applications.  The center will be closed on weekends and major holidays.

In the future, the center will serve as a storefront for Metro’s new account-based fare collection system, which will be coming to Metro bus and rail riders soon.  When the new fare collection system is in place, the center will sell new account-based transit cards, replenish account values, and provide additional payment technologies. There is also an employee break room where drivers can relax and refresh during bus layovers.
