As we get ready to view the Solar Eclipse 2024 in WNY, the Erie County Department of Health has provided the following tips:

  • Plan for extra travel time and pack water, snacks, and essential supplies for your carload.
  • Find a safe and recommended viewing location.
  • Use your ISO-certified glasses (ensuring no rips or tears in the lenses) and wear them during your entire eclipse viewing time.
  • Cell phone/Wi-Fi service may be disrupted due to the influx of traffic in the WNY area. Be sure to plan and have alternative methods for staying in touch with family members.
  • Wear red or green for the best viewing experience. This is known as the Purkinje effect, which changes how we perceive colors in low light.
  • For additional information, visit: erie.gov/health/total-solar-eclipse

For employees working at the MTC, the bus area on the Ellicott St. side will be closed from 3:00 pm until 3:30 p.m. on Monday, April 8, to allow our employees a safe space for viewing the eclipse. We ask that employees please use your special eclipse glasses for safe viewing and refrain from venturing into the streets. All bus activity will be suspended in this area during the closure period. Bus activity will resume after 3:30 pm.

Wishing you all a great Solar Eclipse 2024 experience!
