How Much? How much water you should drink depends on your size, weight, activity level, and even where you live. A good rule of thumb is to drink half an ounce to an ounce of water per pound. Drink more if you live in a hot climate or are very active. Try to drink water consistently in small amounts throughout the day.
Bring It Everywhere! Studies have shown that when water is close and more available we drink it more. Invest in a reusable water bottle - something that catches your eye that you'll enjoy carrying around with you. Whether it is a pour, straw, or squeeze top could affect how often you are drinking and how much you get at a time.
Don’t Forget Just because the weather is cooling down doesn't mean we have to slow down our water intake. Set a reminder on your phone for every 15-30 minutes to pick up that water bottle! You can also pair water with something you do frequently throughout the day to make it a habit. Whether it's sending an email, making a phone call, or even something as simple as checking the time - take a sip of water! You'll be surprised at how much you can increase your daily intake.
Add Some Flavor If you're one that doesn't like the taste of water you're not alone! Instead of avoiding water all together think of ways you can make it more desirable. What aspects of beverages do you like? How can you make water more like those using natural ingredients? Many people are drawn to infused water where you can add different fruits, vegetables, and herbs to your glass and the water will take on the flavors of those you choose. You can also use unflavored seltzer water if you need some texture and add your own natural flavors to these! Try a few options this week to decide what flavor you like best.
Benefits For All Increasing your water intake could help you reach your weight loss goals. Water helps to boost our metabolism by hydrating our body's cells making them run more efficiently. If you think you're hungry - try a glass of water. It's difficult for your body to know hunger versus thirst. Water has also been shown to aid in digestive health like preventing kidney stones and allowing proper elimination. Along with the benefits that were mentioned we can't forget about how water helps improve our complexion, boost immune system function, and provides energy!
