WNY APA Awards Best Practice
Fred Frank (WSP USA), Rocky Navarro (WNY APA), Jeffery Amplement (NFTA), and Kelly Dixon (GBNRTC)

On May 14, the NFTA and GBNRTC, along with their consultant team led by WSP USA, were awarded the 2019 Best Practice Award by the Western New York Section of the American Planning Association for work completed as part the NFTA’s Comprehensive Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Planning Project. This award recognizes projects and plans that demonstrate the use of innovative and state-of-the-art planning methods and practices to help create communities of lasting value.

The Comprehensive TOD Plan, completed by the NFTA, GBNRTC, and a project consultant team led by WSP USA, provides the region a detailed analysis of opportunities for TOD throughout the Amherst-Buffalo Transit Corridor. It also provides community stakeholders a toolbox of strategies to promote TOD and continue building community champions to advance TOD across the region. These strategies will be integral to securing funding for the proposed Metro Rail Expansion and implementing policies that will help shape future development within the Corridor and region.

Congratulations to the GBNRTC, Project Manager, and Steering Committee members at the City of Buffalo, Town of Amherst and Buffalo Niagara Partnership.
