The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) is strongly committed to expanding opportunities for diverse suppliers. To ensure your spending counts toward NFTA’s diversity goals (MWBE participation), New York State (NYS) Certification is essential.
NYS certification is more than just a requirement—it’s a powerful tool to grow your business. Certified firms gain greater access to contracting opportunities not only with the NFTA but also with numerous other New York State agencies and authorities.
Steps to Position Your Business for Success with NFTA
1. Register Online for NFTA Procurements
Visit nfta.com, select Procurement under Doing Business, and click Doing Business With The NFTA to complete the supplier registration process. Choose the categories that best represent your products or services. Once registered, you’ll be notified by email when bid opportunities in your category open. Only registered suppliers receive notifications. Please note: all bids must be downloaded directly from our website.
2. Develop a Capability Statement
Think of this as a one-page résumé for your company. It should clearly outline your core competencies and key information that potential partners need to understand why your business is a strong candidate for collaboration.
3. Create Professional Business Cards
Face-to-face networking remains invaluable. A business card with your photo and social media handles (such as LinkedIn) makes you more memorable and easier to connect with after meetings.
4. Attend Pre-Bid Meetings
Details are listed in each Bid or Request for Proposal (RFP). These meetings are excellent opportunities to meet Prime Contractors preparing to bid. When MWBE participation goals apply, Prime Contractors actively seek certified firms to partner with. Bring plenty of Capability Statements and Business Cards to maximize connections.
5. Explore New York State MWBE Certification
If your business is not yet certified, start by completing the Certification Assessment to determine if you qualify for MBE or WBE status in New York State.
