Vitamin D, also referred to as "the sunshine vitamin," is an important nutrient that our bodies use to help protect against acute respiratory infections including some symptoms of COVID-19 and the flu. We obtain large doses of vitamin D through the sun's UVB rays. In places like WNY where harsh winters provide very little sunshine, people who do not take supplements usually have lower vitamin D levels and may be more susceptible to illness and depression.
If you want to do more to stay healthy this winter, consult with your doctor about adding vitamin D supplements to your daily regimen.
