WNY Officials and community leaders joined representatives from the NFTA on May 13 for a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the start of construction at the Buffalo Airport. The largest upgrade for the Airport since the new terminal’s construction, this series of enhancements is all about passenger flow. The $65 million project will include a wider TSA security entrance, doubling the number of exits, larger inspection areas and faster baggage claim. More than 54,000 square feet of new space will be added while more than 38,000 square feet of existing space will undergo renovation.
"This investment, along with other transportation projects, has significant economic impact," said NFTA's Executive Director Kim Minkel. "The Buffalo Airport generates over $1 billion in economic activity annually here within Western New York."
Pike Construction in Buffalo will lead the construction efforts. The project is expected to take up to three years. Passengers can follow all of the progress at Buffalo Airport BufUp.
