NFTA Exec. Dir. Kim Minkel speaking at podium

This week, the NFTA held a topping out ceremony at the Buffalo airport to celebrate the installation of the highest steel beam at the west end of the terminal. This is another piece in the airport’s $65 million expansion project.

The event was highly visual, as the (socially distanced) crowd was able to see the beam being raised to its highest point. In November, the airport also held a similar event at the east end. Topping out events date back to Scandinavian tradition in which a small pine tree is placed on the beam to symbolize good luck.

In attendance were Senator Tim Kennedy, Assemblywomen Monica Wallace and Karen McMahon, and NFTA board members.

We greatly appreciate everyone who helped make this current project come to life. The airport expansion is expected to complete in 2021.
