On February 4, we celebrate Rosa Parks' birthday and her incredible legacy. Today is also Transit Equity Day, a day dedicated to highlighting the importance of public transportation as a fundamental right accessible to everyone.
In 1955, Rosa Parks displayed remarkable courage when she refused to give up her seat on a segregated public bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Her defiance sparked a bus boycott in Montgomery, which ultimately led to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that segregation on public buses was unconstitutional. Her bravery has solidified her status as a key figure in the Civil Rights Movement.
Rosa Parks' image is proudly displayed on our Freedom Wall, a mural celebrating 28 American Civil Rights leaders from the past and present. This mural, located outside our Cold Spring bus garage in Buffalo, serves as a tribute to those who have paved the way for others and as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for equality and justice.
