The DL&W Station is the first extension of the light rail system since construction of the 6.4 mi Metro-Rail line in 1979. The Station's construction has involved significant site and rail yard work, boarding platforms, partial demolition of masonry walls for station entrances fronting the Riverwalk/Shoreline Trail, and second floor improvements to furnish a pathway to the East Tower on South Park.

Project updates, include: 

• The Station opening is scheduled for later this year (2025). 
• Next phases of the work have begun and include improvements to the second floor, particularly: coating the outdoor roof deck to allow for assembly and events, selective demolition to prepare for construction of the second floor bridge from the Station into KeyBank Arena, and construction of a freight elevator.
• These improvements are expected to be complete late Summer 2026.
