The Federal Transit Administration has released the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) and Record of Decision (ROD) for the NFTA-Metro Transit Expansion Project. This marks the completion of the federal environmental review process and a significant milestone in advancing the project.
As part of this initiative, NFTA-Metro plans to extend high-capacity transit service approximately 7 miles from the current endpoint at the Metro Rail University Station on the UB South Campus to Tonawanda and Amherst, with connections to the UB North Campus. The project is anticipated to reduce automobile travel by over 11 million miles annually, enhance the effectiveness of regional transit systems, and foster sustainable economic growth through increased transit-oriented development.
