Lace up your sneakers, grease those bicycle gears, grab your MetGo card, or dust off your passenger seat cushions for a friend!

Get There Green is a campaign through the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation running from Sept. 22-29 to promote and celebrate more sustainable modes of transportation. Everyone at the NFTA is encouraged to join in by using a more sustainable mode of transportation for as many trips as they can during that week.

On the morning of Tuesday, September 24, staff from HSEQ and Public Affairs will be in the MTC lobby with stickers and snacks for those who sustainably commute to work that day!

Sustainable Alternatives include:

  • Walking
  • Biking
  • Taking NFTA Bus/Rail
  • Carpooling
  • Any other mode of transportation that is not traveling alone in a gas-powered vehicle (Kayaking down the river, E-scooter, Onewheel!)

Remember, public transit is an excellent sustainable transportation alternative!  Its simple, its cost effective, and it makes a difference.

The competition is on!

This year NFTA will be competing against other state agencies to see which one has the highest percentage of employees participating in Get There Green!.

You can register your green trip on the short registration form, or send an email to Emma.Hoffritz@nfta.com with your name and mode of transportation.

Reasons to Get There Green
Transportation represents the 2nd largest source of New York State's greenhouse gas emissions, and the largest part of most New Yorkers’ personal carbon footprint as well. It is critically important that we lower our emissions from transportation to meet NYS greenhouse gas emission reduction goals of 40% of 1990 emission levels by 2030, 85% by 2050, and ultimately net-zero.
