Mrivera
Miguel Rivera - 38 years

From Elmwood Avenue in the 1980s to Niagara Falls Circulators in the 2020s, you can imagine Miguel Rivera has seen and heard a lot in his 38 years of driving for Metro. He actually began working for Metro because his friend asked him to come here. At the time, he already had full- and part-time jobs but came aboard because he thought he could make a positive difference.

The favorite part of his job – the people!  Throughout his career, he has assisted thousands of customers and has had many unique experiences.  A few of his favorite stories include:  The woman, adorned in green from head to toe (hair, makeup, and clothes), that boarded his bus one evening on Elmwood Avenue (and, it wasn’t St. Patrick’s Day); “Telephone Lady” who pretended to answer the phone and have a conversation every time the bus bell rang, and “Leather Pants Man,” which you’ll have to ask Miquel about when you see him.

Buses, routes, and people have come and gone. But, one thing that hasn’t changed is his favorite route to drive -- the 52, which he says is the same as when he first started. Miguel has enjoyed great success during his Metro career and offers some advice for the rookies, “Attendance is crucial to the job. Show up and don’t miss your run. People really rely on you!” says Miguel.

Miguel isn’t defined by just his years here though – he’s a family man who has grown up in North Tonawanda with 10 siblings and loves spending time with his dad.  He, too, is a very proud father, speaking highly of his daughter.

Congratulations Miguel, we are excited to celebrate you for your long-standing commitment to serving our transit riding community and as our Metro Operator with the most seniority.
