On Wednesday, July 26, NFTA's Holly Nidell spoke along with other community partners at the Disability Pride Flag Raising Ceremony in Buffalo. On this special day and for the first time, Buffalo raised the flag to honor the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was signed into law in 1990.

The flag raising was a powerful statement that people with disabilities deserve to be seen, heard, understood, and celebrated. Many people gathered together for this special celebration, which included advocates who are making a difference in our community every day.

Those in attendance include representatives from People Inc., Deaf Access Services,  Center for Self Advocacy, the NFTA, WNY Independent Living, Advocacy and Public Policy for Western New York, and Government officials from the State, County, and City of Buffalo.

It was a great a day to celebrate progress, and the importance of breaking barriers, advocating for change, and ensuring that everyone's rights are protected and respected in Buffalo. The Pride Flag Raising Ceremony was part of the kick-off for the Buffalo Disability Pride Parade and Festival held at Canalside from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
