Julia George is a summer intern with NFTA's HSEQ Department. She has been involved with a variety of activities including analyzing data from our Glycol Wetland Treatment System, conducting environmental inspections and reviews, and taking part in spill response actions as they occur. She has learned a great deal about environmental policy as it relates to stormwater, waste management, chemical and petroleum bulk storage tanks, along with our wetland treatment system at the Buffalo Airport.
Julia attends Clarkson University and is majoring in Environmental Engineering. This internship fits right in with her education, as see is able to see systems in a working capacity that she is learning about in classes. She also has a better understanding of what it takes to maintain, monitor, and run these systems.
Julia is truly grateful for this opportunity to gain experience in various areas across the authority including the Airport firehouse.
"With the NFTA being such a large authority, I have been provided with insight into environmental engineering in collaboration with a variety of stakeholders. I have found this internship to be of great value to my education, and I know that the knowledge I have gained here will serve me well moving forward with my schooling and my career. However, my favorite part of the summer has been the people I get to work with at the NFTA every time I am here," said Julia.
Julia is also a graduate of Akron High School and a former member of the Akron HS "Santa" Marching Band that performs annually at the MTC.
