Please know that we were just informed that an NFTA employee has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. This employee works within a Metro rail facility and has not been at work since March 6th. This employee traveled out of state, became ill and did not return to work and self-quarantined at home. We want to stress that this colleague became sick while on vacation and was never ill while at work. We are happy to report that our colleague is recovering and feeling healthy.
We did speak with the New York State Department of Health. They indicated that this exposure was from out of state and after the employee left work for vacation. They are not recommending any additional steps at this time.
Your safety is important to us and as such we will continue to follow all recommendations promoted by the Department of Health, Center for Diseases Control, State, Federal and all other health directives.
We are continuing our efforts of keeping our facilities clean, sanitized and safe for our employees and the public we serve. We encourage you to continue to keep yourself safe.
Please monitor yourself for possible symptoms of COVID-19 virus. Any symptomatic employee should not report to work. Symptoms of COVID-19 may include:
- Shortness of breath, or
- Respiratory infection/distress
Any employee experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19 shall immediately report symptoms to their supervisor and NFTA Human Resource Department (HR) by dialing 716-855-6500. Please leave your name and contact information so that we can follow-up. Any employee reporting symptoms will be required to self-quarantine and contact their primary health care practitioner to see if they are available and able to collect a sample for testing. If not, the employee should contact the New York State COVID-19 hotline at 1-888-364-3065 to be referred to a regional testing site that can collect and submit a sample for testing. The employee must notify HR of the test results as soon as they are received. Test results will be verified by the New York State Department of Health.
If the test results for the employee are positive, HR will immediately direct the employee to maintain their quarantine for 14 days. HR will also notify the supervisor of the positive test results and send a notice to all employees who work within the nearby work location.
If the test results for the employee are negative, HR will direct the employee to return to work after they have recovered from their illness.
Thank you for your attention and implementation of these new protocols during this difficult time. Please refer to the NFTA website elements.nfta.com which will always contain the most updated news.
