We have exciting news! The Metro Transit Expansion Project has received the 2026 Best Practice Award from the WNY Section of the American Planning Association. This honor was announced during their annual awards program held on May 13, 2026, at the Hamburg Brewing Company.

This award is given annually to a local project that demonstrates how innovative planning methods can help create communities of lasting value. The awards committee cited the Metro Transit Expansion Project’s collaborative approach to resolving complex design and environmental issues, which ultimately led to securing a federal NEPA Record of Decision in 2026 as a definitive best practice in regional transit planning. NFTA-Metro, WSP, Inc., and FTA Region 2 were all recognized as part of the award-winning project team.
