NFTA Metro has been chosen as a recipient of a prestigious 2020 APTA Gold Safety & Security Excellence Award.  These elite awards are given to transit organizations with the best overall safety or security programs. Nominations are evaluated on four criteria: effectiveness, benefit level, innovation, and transferability. 

Metro was recognized for implementing a new global rail contractor safety policy that has made a significant impact on operations in 2020.  The new policy has led to enhanced communications, proactive interactions, and increased awareness, resulting in a stronger safety culture and fewer reportable on-the-job injuries. 

These annual awards recognize transit agencies for their innovative efforts and help in benchmarking successful programs so other systems can fine-tune their programs based on the findings of their peers.

Metro team members will be formally recognized at the virtual APTA transit expo in March of this year.
