APTA Safety Award Team (2)
Metro Rail Team (L-R): Robert Guise, Darren Haag, Donald Clapp, Paul Kowalski, Adam Barrett, Frank Fowler, and David Hooper

The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) has awarded NFTA-Metro Rail with the 2020 Safety and Security Gold Award for Light Rail / Streetcar, which is given to the top three transit agencies in North America with the best overall rail safety programs.

NFTA-Metro Rail was recognized with a Gold award for revised contractor safety policies and trainings that led to an increased safety awareness for contractors performing work on Metro’s light rail system.  Projects that were directly affected by the revised policies were Cars on Main Street and the construction of the DL&W Station.  APTA made the announcement this week to coincide with Operation Lifesaver's "Rail Safety Week," which takes place annually from Sept. 21-27.

Due to the pandemic, the annual APTA award ceremony that would have been held in October of this year is now scheduled for March 2021.  We hope you will join in congratulating our amazing Metro-Rail team on this wonderful achievement.  Check out the project video here
