The Niagara Falls International Airport runway is nearly finished. With $16.1 million spent on construction, and $21 million spent on the entire project, the new runway at Niagara Falls International Airport is something the NFTA is happy to unveil to the traveling public. When asked how the work on the runway was going, project manager, John Diebold said, “Everything is going ahead of schedule.”
During the project both the main runway and the crosswind runway were completed within the scheduled time frame. The main runway was completely shut down for 33 days, and the crosswind runway was shut down for 24 days. The entire project should be completed by the end of summer. There are a few small details that need to be finished, but the impact operations are all complete.
There are a number of benefits to the new runway. It will be easier to maintain and less debris and dirt will circulate into the plane motors. This new runway will serve the NFIA for the next twenty years and will continue to work with commercial and military operations. Robert Stone, Pascal Cohen, Mike Bykowski, John Diebold, Andrew Adams and Paul Pfeiffer worked as a team on this project and they are very pleased with their work so far.
“This was a big team effort, we’re all excited to see the final product,” said Diebold.
