The NFTA joins the Western New York community in honoring the life and legacy of a remarkable leader: Ernestine R. Green. She was the first woman and first woman of color to serve on the NFTA board of commissioners, serving from 1980 to 1994. Her sad passing marks the loss of a true pioneer. Ernestine broke barriers and opened doors.

Her presence and impact on the board were significant. She brought life experience, keen insight, and an unstoppable desire to always put our community first.

Ernestine R. Green made history. Her positive and strong leadership positively changed the NFTA. Her legacy of kindness, passion for community, and equality in transportation made the region better. We will forever remember her for what she made possible and the extraordinary life she led.
