International Firefighters’ Day (IFFD), May 4, is a time to recognize our firefighters and the sacrifices they make to ensure their communities and environment are safe. It is also a day to pay tribute to fallen firefighters worldwide.

ARFF Chief William Major is extremely proud of his amazing firefighting team.

"Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting requires a team of Firefighters who receive extensive  training. Our Firefighters attend the 15-week NYS Academy where they receive their NYS Municipal Firefighter certification and other National Certifications. They also attend the ARFF training course in Rochester, NY where they receive their National ARFF certification. In addition, our firefighters are NYS Certified Emergency Medical Technicians. Our ARFF team is made up of 36 Firefighters, 4 Assistant Chiefs and 1 Chief. The women and men who serve to protect the Buffalo Niagara International Airport and surrounding community are some of the bravest, compassionate, and hard working firefighters. They assist all who enter our property and often can be heard saying ‘just doing our job’ when thanked for their assistance. I am so proud to work alongside this incredible Firefighting team," said Chief Bill Major.
