Fire Prevention Week begins this weekend, Sunday, October 6, and runs through October 12, 2024

This year’s FPW campaign, “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you" strives to educate everyone about the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home. There's a lot to know!

As a reminder, all smoke alarms (including hard-wired or those with removable batteries) should be replaced after 10 years, or by the replace by date on the base or earlier if they are found to be defective. The sensor in a smoke alarm can degrade over time. Even if you hear the beep when you press the button to test it, the sensor may be less able to detect smoke, giving you less time to evacuate.  If you want to know more, visit:  NFPA.org/events/fire-prevention week
