Metro Bus Driver Hugh Perkins

Metro bus driver Hugh Perkins has been fearlessly serving our riders and the community throughout the Covid-19 health crisis. However, as we move toward spring, Hugh is looking forward to heading out on another set of wheels--his bike!

Perkins is a volunteer spokesperson and Monday night event coordinator of the Slow Roll Buffalo "squad." Organized locally by non profit volunteers at Wheel B. Herd, Slow Roll Buffalo began in 2014 as a free and inclusive way to bring people from all walks of life together and reconnect our community.

With an estimated 1,000 participants, it has now become the largest offshoot team in the global Slow Roll network where thousands have been gathering in Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago, Minneapolis, Washington, D.C, Berlin, and Stockholm for many years.

Its presenting partner, Independent Health and other generous community members have helped keep participation in Slow Roll Buffalo free for the past few years. However, amidst the pandemic, Slow Roll has not been able to activate in its usual manner, and they are asking for help.

Slow Roll Buffalo is currently running its "Keep the Wheels Rolling Campaign" that spotlights what they do and the operational challenges they are facing. If you are interested in learning more about them and how you can make a difference, please watch here.
