Lieutenant Mike Fontana, of our Transit Authority Police Department, has been recognized with a citation from NYS Assemblyman David DePietro of District 147 for his heroic efforts in saving a stranded motorist on a frigid winter evening in Western New York.
On that bitterly cold night, when temperatures plunged to a bone-chilling minus nine degrees, the motorist, Matt, found himself in a dire situation after running out of gas and discovering his cell phone was dead. As he exited his car to flag down help, many vehicles passed by without stopping until Lt. Fontana came to his rescue. This heartfelt story highlights the essence of community support and going above and beyond for someone in need. We encourage you to take a moment to watch the video here: Fontana_WKBW.
Lt. Fontana has dedicated 16 years of service to the TAPD and is known for his compassion and unwavering commitment to the community. He was also recently honored with an Extra Mile Award at the NFTA's Annual Service Awards event in recognition of his heroic actions.
