The NFTA will host its annual flu shot clinic from October 6-10, 2025, provided by Wegmans Pharmacy. The schedule, including dates, times, and locations, is available on the included flyer.

Here are some reasons to get the flu shot:

  • Protection against severe illness. A flu shot reduces the risk of serious outcomes, such as hospitalization and death, even if the flu is still contracted. This is especially important for high-risk individuals, such as older adults, young children, and people with chronic health conditions.

  • Community immunity. The flu is highly contagious. Vaccination protects those around you who are most vulnerable to complications, including babies, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems.

  • Reduced the severity of illness. Studies show that if you get the flu after being vaccinated, symptoms are likely to be milder and the illness shorter.

  • Prevention of complications. The flu can lead to serious secondary infections such as pneumonia and bronchitis, or it can worsen chronic conditions like asthma, heart disease, or diabetes. The vaccine helps prevent these outcomes.

  • Prevents co-infections. The flu shot can help reduce the chance of getting a severe "twindemic" of both flu and another respiratory illness, such as COVID-19, simultaneously.

  • A new vaccine is needed every year. The flu viruses are constantly changing. A new vaccine is developed each year to protect against the strains expected to be most common during the upcoming flu season.
