Welcome Kathryn Wirtanen, the NFTA's new Safety, Quality, and Assurance Coordinator in HSEQ. New to Buffalo from Minnesota, Kathryn is eager to establish herself professionally and personally.

Before joining the NFTA, Kathryn was a student at Minnesota State University-Mankato, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in environmental science. Throughout her undergrad, she was also very involved in student-led organizations pertaining to campus sustainability, leadership, and cancer awareness. She says getting out of the classroom and connecting with volunteers, agencies, and members of the public was the most influential experience. In a previous professional role assisting an Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager at a manufacturer, the passion for employee health and safety began. She felt that the combination of protecting employees, environmental compliance, and continuously improving processes and procedures was the best fit. With an eagerness to learn, she is excited to start at the NFTA and make a positive impact.

Originally from Wisconsin, she was drawn to the area because of its proximity to other cities, outdoor recreation, and the ability to travel to the coast. When she’s not working, she likes to volunteer, hike, try new restaurants, and attend live music events.

Kathryn is located on the 5th floor at MTC. She is working closely with the HSEQ team to enhance HSEQ initiatives.
