"As a native of Puerto Rico, and a proud Latina woman, Hispanic Heritage Month is a time when we as Latinos can recollect and embrace upon our journeys and those of our ancestors before us.

My journey began in Puerto Rico, where at an early age, I learned to weather powerful tropical storms while building strong community values.

My life's experiences have brought me to many places throughout the United States, but now Buffalo is my home. I'm grateful for our community's outstanding commitment to celebrating Hispanic culture and carrying on with rich Puerto Rican traditions. However, my heart will always remain in Puerto Rico since my mother and much of my family continue to make it their home.

I am 30 years old and even though I've spent most of my life on the mainland, Puerto Rico will always be home."
