Black History Month (BHM) is a whole month dedicated to celebrating, learning, and sharing appreciation for Black heritage. But, you may ask why red, black, yellow/gold, and green?
Here's what history indicates that these colors represent:
- Black: Melanin/Shared Identity
- Yellow: Sun/Prosperity
- Green: Mother Nature
- Red: Blood/History
These colors have also been described this way: Black is the color of the noble and distinguished race; Yellow is for hope, justice, and equality; Green is the color of the luxuriant vegetation of the Motherland; and Red is the color of the blood which African American men and women have shed for their redemption and liberties.
In continued recognition of Black History Month, we hope that you will join in wearing a combination of Black, Yellow, Green, and Red on FRIDAYS in February. And, don't forget to send your group and individual photos to Elements@nfta.com.
